Can you name some heroes (real-life) from the past Century?

I am doing a film project using Windows Movie Maker and it's based on all the heroic icons throughout the last 100 years. So far I have Lance Armstrong, MLK Jr., JFK, RFK, Gandhi, FDR, And that's it so far. I need more. It could be any icon that is a hero for you as well. Thank you.
