Prelude to crawling?

I wish i knew (no help right) but my 8 1/2 old boy is the same way. Everyone tells me he is not going to crawl and go straight to walking, that he may walk sooner than the norm. But all kids are different, because my husband's lil' cousin (he is 2 weeks older than my son) has been crawling for the last month.
